Meditation - is a practice
which is part of many world religions. It is designed to induce a state of profound relaxation, inner harmony and increased
self-awareness.The actual method of practising mediation might vary between schools of thought: from mantras and watching
your breath, to candle gazing - but the purpose remains the same: to focus one's awareness on an object or thought, so that
extraneous thoughts are excluded. The mind then becomes calm, relaxed and aware.
Meditation has been shown to reverse the body "flight or fight" response to stress, and initiate the Relaxation
Response. Whilst it is practised as a means to spiritual enlightenment in the East, in the West it is mainly used as a stress
management tool.
Those practising Meditation on a regular basis report feeling more relaxed, alert, calm, happy and focussed
than before.
What can be treated?
Treatment is especially useful in treating the following health conditions:
anxiety, addictions, chronic fatigue syndrome, depression, headaches, high blood pressure, insomnia, IBS, migraines,
stress.
What does the treatment involve ?
Each
session may last up to 30 minutes and usually involves sitting still in a set position usually crossed legged. An object of
meditation is chosen and chanting of a mantra may occur. Depending on the therapist other rituals may occur. As the session
progresses slow breathing promotes deep relaxation. After the session you will feel relaxed .
