Reiki - The name means 'Universal Life Energy' and it is a very simple system of healing which was re-discovered at the end of last century in Tibet.   Reiki is traditionally taught in three sections, called 'degrees' - although nowadays the whole system is sometimes taught in one section - and/or the third 'degree' is divided into two sections.   Reiki uses four sacred symbols to 'empower' the healers. These symbols are 'placed' in the student's energy centres by the Reiki teacher (known as a Reiki Master)and, from then on, will channel healing whenever the recipient wishes to use it.   The Reiki healer will generally want to take a short case history before giving healing - to ensure that if you are ill, you have consulted a doctor. This time also helps you to relax and feel comfortable before healing takes place. The client may feel warmth, peacefulness or, sometimes, emotional surges as the healing progresses. Reiki is very gentle and non-invasive.   A Reiki healing treatment takes about an hour to an hour and a half.
