The most popular way to encourage wildlife in the garden

Wildlife in Mind

Managing your garden for wildlife adds an extra dimension to gardneing and is an exciting way to help out our native wildlife.

 It’s not just flowers that can bring colour to your garden – birds, insects and butterflies can all add colour to your life, while helping to care for your garden in a far more natural way.

Wildlife, like humans, shares two basic requirements to a happy existence - food and shelter.

Pondering

A pond is the best thing you can put into your garden to attract wildlife. All creatures need water to exist, and many choose to live in it for all or part of the year. A pond should have shallow margins, deeper areas, gently sloping sides and plenty of aquatic plants.

The most popular way to encourage wildlife into our gardens is feeding birds. Other popular ways of encouraging wildlife are:

avoiding chemicals

planting wildlife friendly plants

using own compost

putting up nest boxes

leaving dead wood and leaves around

feeding wild animals
