Aluminium
Facts
1/4
of all cans produced each year in the UK
are made of aluminium.
That’s
a total of 5 billion!
We use
nearly 60 tonnes of aluminium cans & more than 1 tonne of aluminium foil a year, which is enough to stretch to the moon
and back.
In 1998,
about 42% of the aluminium cans used in the UK were recycled.
About
50% were recycled world-wide.
Aluminium
is made from bauxite ore, which is mined in countries such as West Africa, the West Indies
and Australia. It causes huge environmental damage.
It takes
the same amount of energy to make 20 recycled aluminium cans as it does to make just one new one.
Recycled
aluminium foil gets made into parts for cars and recycled aluminium cans come back as more cans!
